KHARTOUM: The Ministry of External Affairs has started a rescue mission to bring back Indians from Sudan, where the internal military conflict is raging. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar informed that around 500 Indians have currently arrived at the port in Sudan. He also informed via Twitter that air and naval systems are ready to bring them back to the country.
S Jaishankar had informed the other day that the warship of the Indian Navy has arrived in Sudan for the rescue mission called Operation Kaveri. INS Sumedha has reached the shores of Sudan. He also informed that the Air Force's C130J aircraft is fully ready at Jeddah Airport. Attempts are being made to evacuate Indians by ship as several airports, including those in Khartoum, have been destroyed in the fight between the country's military and paramilitary groups. A few Indians were rescued in a rescue mission conducted by the French Air Force and the Saudi Navy in recent days. It is estimated that more than 3000 Indians are stuck in Sudan.
