THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Portions omitted by NCERT will be included and taught in state syllabus. It has been decided to teach portions including Mughal history and Gujarat riots. SCERT will print and issue supplementary textbook for this purpose.
In the curriculum committee meeting held today, NCERT decided to teach the omitted subjects in the state syllabus. Criticism was also raised against the central action of omitting the portions.
Omitting portions like Mughal rule, assassination of Gandhi, references to Maulana Abdul Kalam, banning of RSS and Gujarat riots from social studies textbooks, had stoked a controversy. The theory of evolution was also omitted from the 10th class science textbook after this. Criticism was raised against this from many quarters. The criticism was that there is no point in hiding the facts which are a part of India's history.
