Maoists used 50 kg bomb in Chhattisgarh attack, big crater formed on spot, more details out

RAIPUR: More details are out regarding the Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh that killed ten security personnel and one driver. As per reports, an improvised explosive device weighing 50 kg was used in the attack. A huge crater has been formed at the site of the explosion. The security personnel were traveling in a rented minivan. It is reported that the vehicle may have been flung at least 20 feet due to the force of the explosion.

Experts say that the Maoists may have used ten times the quantity of explosives to target the van. Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased.

The security personnel reached here after receiving information about the presence of Naxalites. The attack took place while they were returning from the area.

The attack happened a week after Maoists opened fire on the convoy of a Congress MLA who was returning from a public meeting in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur. The Congress MLA, Vikram Mandavi, was travelling with panchayat member Parvati Kashyap when the Maoists shot at their convoy.
