IDUKKI: Forest Minister AK Saseendran said that rogue tusker Arikomban will be shifted out of Idukki. He also said that the elephant will be shifted deep into the forest. The officials are currently trying to transfer the tranquilized Arikomban into the lorry.

The minister said that the task force functioned under adverse situations to capture Arikomban.

"It is unfortunate that some people are claiming that there were lapses on the part of the forest officials. It was a brave action on the part of the forest department officials. Kudos to the officials and the veterinary doctor. We will transfer the tusker to an undisclosed place as per the court. At present, we cannot tell where the elephant will be shifted," the minister said.

Five tranquilizer darts were fired at the tusker. Arikomban is seen giddy. Four kumki elephants have surrounded the tusker. Efforts are on to tie ropes to the legs of Arikomban to transfer it into the lorry. Ropes have been tied to two of its legs. The eyes of the tusker have been covered with a black cloth. Arikomban will be transferred to the lorry by the kumki elephants. The elephant will be translocated after attaching a radio collar to its body.

Tranquilizer darts were fired at the elephant under the leadership of Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Arun Zachariah. 150 people, including forest department officials, veterinary surgeons led by Dr Arun Zazhariah and mahouts of kumki elephants, took part in the mission.
