THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sudipto Sen directed 'The Kerala Story' has rekindled political debate of secularism and islamophobia in Kerala. CPM, congress, and the Muslim League joined cohorts to beseech the censor board to ban the movie after the trailer emerged showing about 33,000 girls in Kerala forced to change their religion in the recent past with some made to go as recruits in Syria and Afghanistan.
The politics of Kerala doubts the movie hitting the right chord among Christians. BJP is working its way, winning Christian hearts with meticulous moves. Support for the movie only fortifies their bond since many Christian girls were also forced to change their religion in Kerala.
Meanwhile, Muslim League plans to use the film for political brownies. Several league fortress is now in CPM's hands. The fall in votes has triggered the league leadership to attack CPM rather than BJP to gain back favor among the masses. League general secretary P M A Salam accused V S Achuthanandan for paving the way for islamophobia in the state. VS in 2009, commented about the ill motives run by SDPI to change Kerala to an Islamic nation by the end of 2050.
Kerala story tells the story of three students in a college, and the sudden juncture in their life forcing them to change religion for love. Adah Sharma is the leading face and the movie is set to hit screens on May 5. Congress accuses the movie of propagating fallacy in the name of art, to tarnish the well-suited coexisting space of harmony in the southern tip of the country.
