THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Bevco has abandoned its move to open 175 new shops to reduce the rush in retail outlets due to the unavailability of convenient buildings. Although the inspection was conducted in several buildings there were objections. Out of the 68 shops closed during the UDF rule, only 7 have been opened so far.
The move to set up 17 warehouses was also shelved considering the additional cost in terms of rent and the additional liability of hiring more staff.
Meanwhile, about two dozen hotels are under construction in different districts, ready to get bar licenses. The new license will be given to hotels rated four-star and above. Bevco had decided to open new shops following a direction from the High court.
Bevco has started premium counters in 63 of its 269 shops. The premium counter system will also come in other shops with proper space.
