NEW DELHI: An advocate has approached the Supreme Court against the release of the controversial film ‘The Kerala Story’. Lawyer Nizam Pasha approached the Supreme Court alleging that the film promotes hate speech. The lawyer raised the issue before a Supreme Court bench that considers petitions against hate speech comprising Justice KM Joseph and Justice BV Nagaratna.
Nizam Pasha tried to bring the matter to the Supreme Court by filing a special petition in the hate speech case. But the bench refused to consider ‘The Kerala story’ as an application in another case. Justice KM Joseph, who presided over the bench, pointed out that the film is being released with the permission of the Censor Board. The court also asked whether the complainant can approach the High Court or other authorities. Justice BV Nagaratna asked how the complainant could directly approach the Supreme Court on the matter.
Meanwhile, senior advocate Kapil Sibal asked the Supreme Court to examine the transcript of the film ‘The Kerala Story’. The trailer has already been viewed by 16 million people. Kapil Sibal also informed the court that he will soon file a detailed petition against the release of the film. He told the court that even if the issue is raised before the Chief Justice tomorrow, the film will be released before a decision is taken.
