Seizure of 28 kg ganja: Grade SI suspended after aiding son's escape to foreign nation

ganja-case

KOCHI: A grade SI, who allegedly tried to protect his son in a ganja case, has been suspended. The departmental action is against Grade SI Sajan of Ernakulam Thadayittaparamb police station. The police had earlier arrested him and his son. Sajan is an officer with more than 30 years of service.

Sajan tried to save his son Naveen in connection with the case pertaining to smuggling 28 kg of ganja. Naveen is already accused in four police and excise cases. The police had received information that Naveen would come to collect the ganja seized from the Aluva railway station. But Naveen reached the spot and escaped in a jeep before the police caught him. The police followed the jeep and found Sajan, the father, in the driving seat. Sajan tried to aid Naveen's escape by giving another car.

Rural SP called Sajan directly and asked about his son, but he did not give a definite reply. Later, the police got information that it was Sajan who arranged for Naveen's escape to Abu Dhabi via Bengaluru. Then Sajan and his son were arrested under the leadership of Aluva Rural SP Vivek Kumar. Sajan was about to retire from service on May 30.
