THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has decided to stop the administrative and vigilance cell from working inside the secretariat. The move is a blow to many PSC aspirants yearning for a name on the list. The cell used to report vacant positions to PSC and shrewdly found errors in the appointments of employees made through PSC. Many such unauthorized appointments were brought to light by the Administrative and vigilance cell.

The cognitive committee chaired by the chief secretary deliberated over the move. Every department in the secretariat now has a separate vigilance to monitor work. Such that, the committee views keeping the administrative cell working as nothing but a redundant process. The file will soon reach the chief minister for approval.

People keen on PSC used to complain to the cell about vacant positions kept for long without any progress. The cell used to effectively intrude on such issues and brought out many unauthorized appointments made during these years. The cell came into work in 2010 while V S Achuthananadan was the CM of the state.

The vigilance cell in the latest intruded into the appointment of assistant labor officer post which found 20 unauthorized appointments favored by government affiliates. The intrusion from the cell got many ires from acolytes within the government and is being viewed as the mainspring for the current decision.
