SC rejects wrestlers’ plea against WFI chief Brij Bhushan on sexual harassment

kk

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has rejected the plea filed by wrestlers against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The Supreme Court today considered the complaint of the women wrestlers citing that the Delhi Police has not taken action in the sexual harassment complaint against Brij Bhushan. But the court pointed out that an FIR has been registered by the police. “We have closed the proceedings at this stage. If petitioners wish for something else, they can approach the magistrate or the High Court in its jurisdiction," stated the court.

The wrestlers started protest at Jantar Mantar on April 23, demanding the arrest of Brij Bhushan and his removal from the post as WFI chief.

A scuffle broke out between the protesters and the Delhi police yesterday night. The wrestlers alleged that the policemen were drunk when they attacked them. They also added that the officials pushed and shoved them. “We are not criminals to be treated in this manner. If you want to kill us, kill us. Male police officers grabbed me and pushed me. Why weren’t there any women police personnel?” asked Vinesh Phogat.
