THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The General Education Department has issued an order to completely ban summer classes in the state. The ban will apply to all schools from LP to higher secondary. The Education Department clarified that the order is applicable to CBSE schools as well. The District Education Officer has been directed to ensure that the order is implemented.

According to the order of the General Education Department, children should not be forced to study and attend such camps during the summer vacation. Schools must close on the last working day of March and open on the first working day of June. The Department of General Education is also publishing the academic calendar for each academic year.

The Department of General Education pointed out that forcing children to sit in classes this way will cause mental problems in them and also lead to serious health problems due to summer heat. Considering all these, educational institutions like Govt Aided, Unaided, CBSE, and ICSC should also not hold classes during vacations, the new order said.
