Driver dies after lorry laden with liquor overturns

MOOLAMATTOM: A lorry carrying liquor from Olamattom Beverages godown proceeding to the bar in Cheruthoni overturned and fell into a gorge killing the driver. He has been identified as Ismail (47) of Vengalloor. The incident happened Tuesday evening at Nadukani in Kulamavu, Thodupuzha. The lorry which met with the accident was carrying beer and wine from the godown in Olamattom near Thodupuzha. The lorry losing control at a turning in Nadukani struck a slab on the opposite side and then fell into a gorge of 150 depth.

Though the locals reached the spot the police did not agree them to go near the vehicle. Police prevented the locals from going near the lorry fearing them to grab the liquor bottles. After a long search, the driver was found trapped among the liquor bottles. Though he was rushed to a private hospital in Moolamattom, his life could not be saved. The body will be handed over to his relatives after post mortem. He leaves behind his wife Nabeesa and children Ayesha and Hussain.
