‘No matter how big the star is, if used drugs, will be kept away’, says Suresh Kumar

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Producer Suresh Kumar welcomed the decision of the police to examine film locations on the complaint of consumption of drugs. He said the shooting set does not need people who create trouble after using drugs.

Suresh Kumar said the police have the list of film personalities who take drugs and so action can be taken. ‘There is no compromise in it. No matter how great the artist is, if he uses drugs, he will be kept away. This is a decision taken after holding talks with association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA). The presence of police will not affect the shooting of the film. The police should have done this earlier. He said the set does not need people who create problems after using drugs.

Suresh Kumar added that everyone knows who all uses drugs. They have to be careful. A purification is needed. They should work, get their remuneration and go. A movie set is not a place to use drugs. Our full support will be given to the police and the government. He said the film industry does not need people who come to the sets, sit in caravans and create problems after using drugs.

Kochi City Police Commissioner K Sethuraman had informed to strictly inspect movie sets following complaints of taking drugs. He clarified that shadow police will be present at the locations and action will be taken against violators. The commissioner also said that an emergency meeting was held in this regard the previous day. There is support from people in the film industry itself. The commissioner added that they will investigate in detail, starting with the use of drugs and the ways in which it comes in.

Film actors including Tiny Tom and Baburaj had earlier opened up about the rampant use of drugs in the film industry. AMMA, the actors’ organization, has already amended the law to deny membership to drug users. Still, the use of drugs could not be wiped out. With this, the police have come forward informing that strict action will be taken.
