MALAPPURAM: Revenue Minister K Rajan said the exact number of people involved in the Tanur boat accident has not been obtained. As the tourist boat that met with the accident was a private one, the exact figure is not available. Unconfirmed reports said there were more than fifty people in the boat. 23 people have died. 10 were rescued and five swam to safety. The minister said the people should inform about the missing ones.

The minister has asked to inform about the missing people after coming to Purappuzha area yesterday. If anyone is missing, it should be informed to the nearest police station. It is not clear how many tickets were issued and how many boarded the boat. The minister informed that rescue operations were given top priority and complaints related to boat service would be considered later.

The police believe that only one is missing. Survivors or relatives have not yet said that more are missing. However, there are many people who did not board the boat after seeing it coming. Meantime, an Indian Navy team reached the spot on the request of the district collector. They have also started searching. However, the national disaster response force officials said that undercurrents are affecting the search.
