MALAPPURAM: The terror boat ‘Atlantic’ misused the Inland Vessel’s ACT to forge documents related to license. Atlantic capsized two days back drowning 22 people including 15 children. Accusations are now handy about the Boat owner Nassar receiving help from major political powers in the region.

Before building the boat, it is mandatory to give a blueprint of the model and details regarding engine strength to the maritime board. Naval architecture drawing and the stability will be inspected after which the Ministry of Ports chief surveyor will give license for construction. The boat should be constructed in authorized yards. If breaching any of the rules, according to Inland vessels act, Rs 10,000 will be hefted fine from the owner.

Meanwhile, it is illegal to convert fishing vessels to tourist boats. The officers in the maritime board helped the owner evade the hassles of rules. 'Atlantic' was waiting for registration when the incident happened.

Before getting Registration, ‘Atlantic’ started business in Tanur breaching the rules. The locals and natives complained the same to the corporation and maritime board, but Naasar with his political clout escaped any actions for the breach committed.
