Justice V K Mohanan led commission to investigate into Tanur boat accident; special squad to inspect boats

MALAPPURAM: The Kerala government has appointed a judicial commission to conduct an investigation into the Tanur boat accident. The committee led by Justice V K Mohanan will conduct the investigation. The high-level meeting chaired by Ports Minister Ahamed Devarkovil decided to inspect all boats in the state by forming a special squad.

The maximum number of passengers that can be carried on each boat shall be displayed in a visible manner to the public. The meeting also decided to form vigilance committees under the supervision of local bodies.

Meanwhile, the State Human Rights Commission said that it got convinced that there were lapses on the part of officials in the incident. It also said that it will take strong action soon after getting the investigation report. The Human Rights Commission has sought a report from SP and Chief Port Surveyor regarding the incident.

At the same time, the police said in Nasser's remand report that the boat was operated in violation of all norms for twenty days to earn excessive profit. The investigation also found that people were even taken on the deck of the boat. Police have arrested the driver of the boat. The investigation team is currently questioning Dinesh, who drove the boat without a license.
