KOCHI: The Kerala High Court said should provide necessary protection to all hospitals in the state. The police should also provide security when an accused is subjected to a medical examination. The court directed that norms followed while producing the accused before the magistrate should be followed in hospitals. The court directed to consider the appointment of a special prosecutor in the Vandana Das murder case. The case was considered by a bench comprising Justice Devan Ramachandran and Justice Kauser Edappagath.

A major lapse has occurred. The court asked didn’t the police come to her rescue when she stood in fear seeing the attack. The court asked it when ADGP M R Ajith Kumar, in charge of law and order, explained the incident. The DGP was also present online.

The police informed the court that Sandeep refused to lower his leg down when the nurse asked him to do that in order to clean the wound. His relative Rajendran Pillai, who accompanied him, forcibly lowered his leg and this provoked the accused.

The division bench had yesterday asked whether the policemen who came to the hospital with the accused didn’t have guns. Extraordinary times require extraordinary measures. Why couldn't the police provide protection? If it were soldiers, they would have given their lives to protect them. Why are guns given to the police? Women and children should have been protected. Will such incidents happen anywhere else in the country? The court said the police had completely failed.
