KOLLAM: The investigation team will take the accused Sandeep into custody today in the Dr. Vandana Das murder case. On an application filed yesterday, the Kottarakkara JFMC Court issued a production warrant to Thiruvananthapuram Central Jail to produce the accused today.

Investigating officer Kollam Rural Crime Branch DySP MM Jose said that the idea is to take Sandeep into custody for five days as a first step. Later, if necessary, an application will be made to extend the custody period.

Perhaps today itself Sandeep will be taken to the Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital and his own house and the evidence will be collected. The first phase of questioning will also take place today. The investigation team recorded the statements of Sandeep's neighbors and friends about the events before he was taken to the hospital. The statement of the eyewitnesses and policemen injured in the attack had already been recorded by the team led by Kottarakkara DYSP.

To avoid any backlash during the trial, the statements of those who were present at the taluk hospital at the time of the incident will be re-recorded in more detail after examining the CCTV footage.

Footage of Sandeep being examined by Dr. Vandana Das at the Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital before the murder had emerged. The investigation team confirmed yesterday that Sandeep himself had circulated the footage recorded on his phone through WhatsApp groups. Sandeep's phone was sent to the forensic lab for detailed examination and the blood sample was sent to the chemical lab.
