kk

KOLLAM: The accused who murdered a beautician and chopped her body to several pieces has been awarded a life sentence and a fine of Rs 2 lakhs by the court. It was Kollam Additional Sessions Court Judge Roy Varghese who convicted Kozhikode Vadakara native Prashant Nambiar (35) in the case of killing Suchitra Pillai (42), a beautician. The accused will have to undergo additional imprisonment of one year and nine months if he does not pay the fine. The order also said that if the fine is paid, it should be given to Suchitra's mother.

Suchitra Pillai was a friend of Prashant Nambiar's wife. The accused became close with her over the phone and embezzled Rs 2 and a half lakhs from her. Suchitra, a divorced woman, had asked the accused to provide her with a baby through artificial insemination. Prashant Nambiar, who felt that this would affect his family life, took the woman to a rented house in Palakkad and killed her by hitting her head against the wall and tying the emergency light cable around her neck. He then chopped the body into pieces and buried it in an empty field nearby. Suchitra who left her home in Kollam on March 17, 2020, last contacted her family on March 20. Later, the Kottiyam police launched an investigation after her family lodged a missing complaint.
