'Police ran outside first when Sandeep began attack'; serious lapse on part of police in Dr Vandana's murder, says Health Dept report

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The inquiry report of the Health Department stated that there was a serious lapse on the part of the police in preventing the murder of Dr. Vandana Das. The report also stated that security employees of the hospital did not intervene on time.

The police went outside first when the attack took place at the Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital. As the door was closed from the outside, Sandeep continued the attack in the emergency department. The security employees of the hospital did not intervene on time. The attack took place when Vandana went to convey the matter to the Medical Officer,' the report said.

Meanwhile, the Legal Department has given approval to the ordinance ensuring the safety of health workers. The Law Secretary examined the provisions of the ordinance after the Health Department Secretary, Director and Medical Education Director held a discussion on the ordinance. The cabinet will consider the ordinance tomorrow after the approval of the Chief Minister. The ordinance ensures severe punishment and fines for those who attack doctors.
