NEW DELHI: Sudha Murthy is well-liked and accepted. She is the wife of Infosys founder N R Narayana Murthy. Not just that, Mrs. Murthy has carved a space for herself in the literary world penning many best sellers. A Padma Bhushan recipient, Mrs. Murthy is also the mother-in-law of one of the most popular names in the world— Rishi Sunak, Prime Minister of Britain.
However, Mrs. Murthy now comes up with an interesting anecdote of what happened some months back at London’s Heathrow Airport. She was stopped by the immigration officers for failing the due checking process. Mrs. Murthy shared the news leaving the audience in side-splitting laughter in a popular tv show hosted by anchor Kapil Sharma.
It was mandatory to write a British address for every foreign passenger before leaving the airport. Sudha Murthy’s son is also in London but during the hassles of the check, Mrs. Murthy failed to recollect her son's address. To avoid further delay, she wrote the address as 10 Downing Street, which embarrassed the officers.
10 Downing Street is the official residence of the British Prime Minister: it is their office, and it is also the place where the Prime Minister entertains guests from Her Majesty The Queen to presidents of the United States and other world leaders.
The officers asked her to leave aside jokes but write the real address. Murthy recollected the incident and said her modest appearance adorning an Indian saree takes away any chance of closely being a relative of the British prime minister.
