NEW DELHI: Arjun Ram Meghwal has replaced Law Minister Kiren Rijiju. Rijiju has been handed the charge of Ministry of Earth Sciences. Meghwal presently the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and the Minister of State for culture, will now have the independent charge of the law ministry.
It is not clear why Kiren Rijiju was removed from the post. Rijiju has recently been in a tussle over SC collegium system. He had said that the collegium system of appointing judges was not transparent.
Rijiju was removed from the post of Law Minister while the controversy was raging. Arjun Ram Meghwal is an MP from Rajasthan.
President Droupadi Murmu, as advised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has reallocated portfolios among ministers in the union council of ministers, a statement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan said.
