In likely bid to delay trial in Assembly ruckus case, CPI woman leaders file petition for reinvestigation

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI leaders have demanded a reinvestigation into the Assembly ruckus case. Bijimol and Geetha Gopi, who were MLAs at the time of the incident, filed the petition in the Thiruvananthapuram CJM court. There are allegations that women leaders who are former MLAs have approached the court to delay the trial in the case.

Both the leaders have alleged in separate petitions that they were injured in the attack by the ruling party MLAs during the assembly ruckus. A complaint was filed with the Museum police but no action was taken. The irregularities were noticed when the charge sheet was filed in the case and checked. The chargesheet includes medical records of injuries sustained by right-wing MLAs during fistfights. But they have not been named as witnesses or recorded their statements. That is why the leaders are demanding further investigation in the case. The court will consider the petition on May 29.

On March 13, 2015, the conflict broke out when the opposition was obstructing the budget presentation of KM Mani, accused in the bar corruption case. According to the charge sheet of the crime branch, public property worth Rs 2.20 lakh was destroyed during the ruckus.
