KOTTAYAM: Kottayam District Collector PK Jayashree said that the families of those killed in the wild buffalo attack will be given a compensation of Rs10,00,000. Two people died in the tragic incident in the district today. Five lakhs each will be handed over to the families of the deceased tomorrow. Forest Minister AK Saseendran had earlier announced that steps will be taken to provide medical aid and compensation to the families of the deceased as soon as possible.
Chakochan (70) and Thomas died tragically in a wild buffalo attack. Chakochan died on the spot. Thomas was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries and succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. The district collector had issued an order to shoot the wild buffalo that had taken the lives of two people. The ruling said that the wild buffalo did not move into the forest after the attack and there is a possibility of it attacking again.
At the same time, one person was killed in a wild buffalo attack in Kollam district as well. Ayoor Perungalloor Kodinjal native Samuel Varghese (64) was the one who died in the attack. Samuel returned home from Dubai last day. This morning, while standing in the rubber plantation adjacent to the house, Samuel was attacked by a wild buffalo from behind. He was seriously injured and rushed to a private hospital but his life could not be saved. The wild buffalo was later found dead.
