The Nelson Venkatesan-directed 'Farhana' starring Aishwarya Rajesh has created havoc all over Tamil Nadu, especially with Muslim sections. The movie portrays the life of a middle-class Muslim woman choosing sex work for a living. The Muslim sections in the state have reviewed the movie as an attempt to taint the community and further marginalize them from society.
Meanwhile, the makers retorted saying the controversies as unwarranted and said the movie is a work of fiction but nothing deliberate to infect ruin to any community. The movie was released on May 12. After the premiere, Aishwarya Rajesh received many threat calls owing to her portrayal in the movie. Reports suggest the actor is currently under the security blanket of Tamil Nadu police.
