Toll rises to four in Pallippuram accident; Woman succumbs to injuries

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The death toll in the Pallippuram accident has risen to four. Anu (23), wife of Mahesh of Kallambalam Nalumukku Karoorkonath Panayil House, who was undergoing treatment for serious injuries at the medical college hospital, died here Monday morning. The accident happened after a speeding KSRTC bus collided with the auto in which she was travelling. Anu’s four-month-day old baby, her mother Shobana (41) and the auto driver Sunil (40) had died on the day the accident happened.

The accident happened on the national highway in Pallippuram. The speeding bus hit the auto while overtaking another vehicle. There were six passengers in the auto. Anu's

husband Mahesh and son Mithun are undergoing treatment in the hospital. As their injuries were not serious, the two have been shifted to the ward. The accident occurred while they were returning home in an auto after Anu’s delivery at the SAT hospital.

A Ajith Kumar (50) of Kollam Mayyanad, driver of the bus, has been arrested. A case of culpable homicide has been registered against him by the Mangalapuram police. The court has remanded him. The Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) has temporarily cancelled his license.
