Vigilance Raids — government should try better ways to dupe people

vigilance-raids

The out of nowhere vigilance raids in government offices are turning into a bitter joke. The people view this as a polished gimmick intended to earn claps from the public. On Friday, the vigilance conducted raids in six municipal corporations in the state. The anarchical practices laced with misgovernance in these corporations are an openly kept secret. Whatever the case, the vigilance suited up for action, and nevertheless, the issue gleamed in headlines on every television news channel. The people were not shocked but appreciated the effort of vigilance to delve deep into The case and nitpick the wrongs that went for too long enjoying impunity.

However, corporations amass many workers' unions mostly consisting of all parties. If anybody is picked by the officers, the top guns from the party will try all means to wither the move. The routine is practiced religiously in Kerala. The vigilance goes for raids, makes news, then nobody hears a mumble on the issue as some other vague news do the takeover. The misdeed repeats.

The mediators in a corporation are the new entrants looking for minting money. The people reaching corporation offices need to move mountains before getting anything done. The help from mediators is a solace but money flows into such pockets too. The money taken as building tax is not properly entered but goes directly to corrupt pockets. These building tax details are not entered in computers albeit the government introducing an e-governance online program. Road, revenue, health, and education are the most corrupt ones in the whole corporation.

Incidents of people putting money into officers' accounts are turning into a new normal. The officers and staffs do tacit approval of such misdeeds running unfettered. The hurdles to bypass are more in the construction sector, so the people make unsolicited attempts to soften officers through the sweet whiff of lucre.

Corporations should work for the people. The system is clogged in the drain not just yesterday but for eons long. It takes true spirit for a cleansing act, to mend things on the right track. The redundant raids are nothing but headline makers not doing any true purpose. The theatrics should be put at bay and the government should have the cojones to fight for a better working local self-government setup rather than kowtowing to union demands.
