Rain will intensify in these four districts in next few hours, warns of strong wind and thunder

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Central Meteorological Department has warned that there is a possibility of light rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kannur in the next three hours and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 km per hour. There is a possibility of strong wind and bad weather conditions at the speed of 40 to 45 kmph and at some occasions up to 55 kmph along Kerala Lakshadweep coasts from May 26 to May 28.

The Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar, Kanyakumari coast and South West Bay of Bengal along the Sri Lankan coast are likely to experience strong winds of 40 to 45 km per hour and at some occasions up to 55 km per hour and bad weather conditions, so people in these areas should not go for fishing in the next two days. The Central Meteorological Department has informed that till May 29 there is a possibility of rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in the state and strong winds with a speed of 30 to 40 kmph.

Thunderstorm warnings

• Thunderstorms are dangerous. They cause great damage to human and animal life, electrical communication networks and household appliances connected to electrical conductors. Therefore, the general public should take the following precautions from the time the cloud starts to be seen. Do not avoid taking such precautions because lightning is not visible.
• Immediately move inside a safe building at the first sign of lightning. Staying in open areas increases the chance of being struck by lightning.
• Keep windows and doors closed and stay away from doors and windows during periods of strong wind and lightning. Stay inside the building and try not to touch the wall or floor as much as possible.
• Unplug household appliances. Avoid proximity to electrical appliances during thunderstorms.
• Avoid using the telephone during thunderstorms. Can use a mobile phone.
• Children should avoid playing outdoors and on terraces if the weather is cloudy.
• Do not stand under trees during thunderstorms. Do not park vehicles under trees.
