PATTIKKAD: The Peechi police have arrested a four-member gang who attempted to smuggle ganja through the Kuthiran tunnel. The arrested persons have been identified as Odisha native Hariyamunda (23), Kottayam natives Thomas (42), Linto (35), and Kozhikode native Azharudheen (22). Police seized 50 kg of ganja from the car in which the accused were travelling.

The police team led by Peechi Station House Officer PM Ratheesh nabbed the accused in an operation conducted today morning on the basis of the confidential information received by the Thrissur District Police Chief. The police had received a tip-off that a group of four people was coming from Palakkad side with ganja in a car. Following this, a team of policemen tried to stop the car at Vaniyampara. However, the accused did not stop the car and managed to go past the police.

In the meantime, another police jeep was waiting at the western part of the Kuthiran tunnel. The police team led by Station House Officer PM Ratheesh soon chased down the car and arrested the accused.
