THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor Arif Muhammad Khan has expressed disagreement with the state government's recommendation to re-appoint Sabu Thomas as MG VC. The governor asked the state government to appoint a three-member panel for the appointment. According to reports, the court is considering the action of extending the term of Kannur Vice-President who retired from service and this is the reason behind the current stand of the Governor. Sabu Thomas, who is now the MG VC, will complete his tenure tomorrow.
The government had sent a letter to the Governor seeking the re-appointment of MG University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sabu Thomas. Higher Education Minister Dr. R Bindu is the one who gave the letter to Governor Arif Muhammad Khan. The governor had asked the government who should be given charge when the tenure of the VC ends. It was in response to this, that the government demanded the reappointment of Sabu Thomas. The government has issued a letter to the Governor pointing out that the re-appointment is valid as the age limit for VC is 65 as per MG University rules.
Meanwhile, Sabu Thomas is one of the VCs who were given notice for dismissal by the governor. Later, Sabu Thomas replied to the governor's show cause notice. Sabu Thomas had also approached the court pointing out that the governor has no right to cancel the appointment made in accordance with the rules.
