P Sivanandan, former assistant editor of Kerala Kaumudi, passes away in T'puram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: P Sivanandan (92), who was assistant editor of Kerala Kaumudi, passed away in 'Kailasam' in Pettah's Ambalathumukku. He was undergoing treatment due to senile illness.

He is the son of Palpu Asan and Karthyayani of Siva Vilasam in Kayamkulam's Kannampally. Palpu Asan was the earliest representative of Kerala Kaumudi in Kayamkulam region. He was the one who collected and sent the news along with the campaign of the newspaper.

Once the editor K Sukumaran came to Palpu Asan's house in Kayamkulam and met Sivanandan. The editor suggested Sivanandan, who had passed BA, to come to Thiruvananthapuram. That is how he became a member of Kerala Kaumudi's editorial board. On the day man stepped on the moon, Sivanandan prepared a special page called 'Man on the Moon', which was the most talked about page then and later.

Wife: N Sumathi (Retired Teacher, Petta School). Children: S Sobha (VSSC Retired Officer), S Santosh (LIC, Agent) and S Mini (Senior Superintendent Barton Hill Eng. College Thiruvananthapuram). In-laws: AS Ajith (Retd Canara Bank Officer), SS Mini, V Anilkumar (Retd Special Secretary, Secretariat).

Siblings: P Vijayan, Late Radhamani, Adv P Viswanathan. The funeral will be held today.
