CHENNAI: Makkal Needhi Maiam leader and actor Kamal Haasan requested that the inauguration of the new Parliament building be made an occasion of national unity. Kamal Haasan also demanded to reconsider the decision of the opposition parties to boycott the inauguration ceremony.

'Let's put aside our political differences for a day. All families must live in India's new home. I believe in participatory democracy. If you have any difference of opinion regarding the inauguration, you can raise it in public forums and in the new parliament. There are more things that unite us than divide us. The eyes of the world are upon us.' Kamal Haasan clarified in the statement.

I congratulate the government on this historic achievement. Despite the disagreement that the President was not invited to the inauguration of Parliament, I celebrate the inauguration with you. He also requested the Prime Minister to explain why the President was not invited to the inauguration of the Parliament.
