PALAKKAD: The Excise has seized a set of explosives brought from Coimbatore to Palakkad at the Walayar Excise Checkpost. Excise Circle Inspector Harish and his team, who were on check post duty, found gelatin sticks in a vehicle during an inspection on the basis of the information received from the Palakkad IB Inspector. Although the vehicle did not stop at the check post, the Excise team managed to chase and catch it with the help of the highway patrol team of Mannarkkad range. Two persons were arrested.

The explosives were skillfully hidden inside onion sacks so that no one would suspect anything. The arrested persons have been identified as Thrissur Kannara natives Lisan and Satheesh. The accused said that the explosives were meant to be taken to Poonkunnam in Thrissur. The vehicle contained 100 cardboard boxes each containing 200 gelatin sticks. The accused and explosives were handed over to the Walayar Police for further action. The accused were later remanded.
