THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Electricity rates will go up in the state from Thursday (June 1). KSEB has issued an order to levy a fuel surcharge of 10 paise per unit. The new hike is being implemented in addition to the 9 paise sanctioned earlier by the Regulatory Commission.
On Wednesday, the Regulatory Commission had directed that the current surcharge of 9 paise should be continued for another six months. However, KSEB issued the order overnight rejecting this.
As per the new law, a surcharge of up to ten paise per unit can be levied without the approval of the Regulatory Commission to cover the losses suffered in the respective month. An additional 19 paise is being collected by adding this. The Regulatory Commission's order to hike electricity rates from July is expected this month.
