THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: During the inspection of the motor vehicle department ahead of the academic year, it was found that 3,500 school buses were not fit. The school authorities have been asked to retake the fitness test. Out of the total 27,400 buses, 22,305 have undergone the fitness test. Officials of the Motor Vehicle Department informed that buses which are not fit and have not been inspected will not be allowed to operate.

At the same time, the 'Vidya Vahan App' of the Motor Vehicles Department to know the details of vehicles through the GPS system is not available in 40 percent of the buses. It is up to the schools to register the parents' mobile numbers in the app. The school authorities have informed MVD that they did not have time and that the service of the app will be made available in the coming days. The MVD has introduced the app 'Vidya Vahan' to put an end to the worries of parents until their children return from schools.
