KANNUR: The man who put fire to the Alappuzha-Kannur executive train hails from Bengal, confirmed the police. The accused is Prasoonjth Sikhdhar(40) who worked as a waiter in hotels in Kolkata before reaching Kerala, just a few days before. He traveled from Thalassery to Kannur by foot.

According to the accused, he was not allowed to beg for alms from people in the street. The denial triggered hate within Sikhdhar which resulted in the Bengal native burning a coach of the train. He has admitted to using a matchbox to fire the train. No other person was involved in the crime.

To confirm the claims from the accused, a batch of police officers have started their travel to Kolkata to get more evidence regarding Sikhdhar.
