BALASORE: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the incident in Balasore, Odisha is the biggest train disaster of the 21st century. Mamata Banerjee, who is also a former railway minister, was talking to the media after visiting the accident site. She also demanded a proper investigation to bring out the truth.

Mamata also discussed the situation with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. There must be something behind the accident, the truth must come out. Why didn't the mechanisms to prevent the trains from colliding with each other work? She asked. Mamata informed that the Bengal government has sent 70 ambulances and 40 doctors for the rescue operation and will fully cooperate with the central government and the Odisha government to coordinate the procedures.

Mamata also stated that an immediate financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh has been allocated to the families of the natives of West Bengal who died in the accident.
