Whirlwind may form in Southeast Arabian Sea, widespread rain likely; monsoon to arrive today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rain with thunderstorms and strong winds are likely to lash the state for five days. According to the Central Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light rain at isolated places in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Thrissur in the next three hours. There may be widespread rain today. The monsoon is expected to arrive today.


A whirlwind may form in Southeast Arabian Sea by tomorrow. It is likely to intensify into a low pressure during the next twenty-four hours. Heavy rain is predicted in isolated places tomorrow.

Fishermen should not venture into the sea. Winds up to 45 kmph and occasional winds of up to 55 kmph and bad weather conditions are possible.
