Monsoon to arrive in state in next 48 hours; yellow alert in six districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Central Meteorological Department said monsoon rains are likely to arrive in Kerala in the next 48 hours. The Meteorological Centre informed that although the monsoon at the Minicoy coast is presently weak, the conditions are favourable for it to reach the Kerala coast.


Light rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places and wind is likely to blow at a speed of 40 kmph in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad in the coming hours. The Central Meteorological Department informed that there will be light rain in Kannur and Kasargod.

The Central Meteorological Department has announced yellow alert in the following districts. Isolated heavy rain is predicted. Heavy rain means rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.
