Heavy rain in Chennai, waterlogging in many places, 10 flights diverted to Bengaluru, holiday for schools in six districts

CHENNAI: A holiday has been declared in six districts including Chennai due to heavy rains in Tamil Nadu. The authorities declared a holiday for schools in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, Tiruvallur, Ranipet and Vellore. The rains lashed Chennai on Sunday night. There was a strong wind along with the rain. Traffic was blocked at many places due to the fallen trees. Air traffic was disrupted due to rain. About 10 flights were diverted to Bengaluru. Several international flights were also delayed.


Meenambakkam received 13.7 cm of rain till Monday morning. Heavy rain is predicted till 10 am today. The traffic on Chennai OMR road was disrupted due to the rain. Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, Thiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, Koodallur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattanam, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur, Tiruchirappalli, Ariyallur, Perumballur. Rain has been predicted in Puducherry and Karaikal regions. A moderate to isolated rain warning has been issued from Tuesday to Thursday.
