PUNALUR: Eleven people, including children, fell ill in Punalur taluk hospital after allegedly getting injected with the wrong medicine. Three children, aged three and five, who showed more discomfort, were admitted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital for expert treatment. The hospital authorities informed that their condition is satisfactory.

Those who were being treated in the fourth floor pay ward of the hospital felt unwell.

The injection was given at eight last night. After an hour, the children started crying profusely. Feeling abnormal, the staff immediately shifted the children to the ICU.

After half an hour, the adults also felt physical discomfort and strong tremors. They were also shifted to ICU.

The delay in referring to the medical college and the hospital staff not boarding the ambulance led to the conflict. Hospital officials were unwilling to divulge the names of the patients or what happened, which led to an altercation. When the UDF-LDF workers came to know about the incident, the altercation escalated into a conflict and the Punalur police had to intervene. The police are camping at the place.
