Mannarasala Amma Umadevi Antharjanam passes away

ALAPPUZHA: Mannarasala Amma Umadevi Antharjanam (93) passed away Wednesday morning. She was born to Subrahmanian Namboothiri of Kottayam Manganam Chembakanalloor and Rukmini Devi Antharjanam in the Malayalam year 1105 on the month of Kumbha in moolam star. In 1949, she became a member of the Mannarasala family through the marriage of M G Narayanan Namboothiri of Mannarasala Illam.

Umadevi Antharjanam took over as Mannarasala Amma when Savithri Antharjanam, who was Mannarasala Valya Amma passed away on October 24 in 1993. Puja started in the temple on March 22 in 1995.

The Antharjanams who perform the puja rituals at Mannarasala Nagaraja Temple are known as 'Mannarasala Amma'. This Antharjanam known as priestess is called 'Valya Amma'. All the main pujas in the temple are performed by Amma. Mannarasala Amma is the eldest member who reach the illam after marriage.
