THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A fine of Rs 41.99 lakh was levied during the statewide inspection by the Legal Metrology Department during Onam. The inspection was from August 17 to 28.
746 cases were taken for using unsealed weighing instruments and 37 cases for tampering with measurements and weights. There are 29 cases of price fixing and overcharging. 345 cases were registered for irregularities and defaults in relation to the sale of packet goods.
There are 94 cases under various other departments. 9 cases were registered against petrol pumps. Special squads headed by General and Flying Squad Deputy Controllers of all 14 districts under the supervision of Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Kozhikode Joint Controllers conducted the inspection.
