LAHORE: It was heartbreak for Afghanistan as their heroics weren’t sufficient enough to ensure victory in the Asia Cup tournament on Tuesday. Sri Lanka defeated Afghanistan by two runs ending Afghan hopes of getting to the Super 4 stage of the tournament.
Sri Lanka scored 291 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 50 overs. Kusal Mendis top scored with 92. Afghanistan was ferocious with the bat as Mohammad Nabi (65) scored the fastest fifty ever by any Afghan batsman while Hashmatullah Shahidi (59) added his share of fireworks with the bat. But the valor didn’t pay its dividends as Sri Lanka survived the scare by toppling Afghanistan by just 2 runs. Kasun Rajitha took four wickets for Sri Lanka.
