Nursing student hacked by youth dies during treatment at hospital

KURUPAMPADI: Alka Anna Binu (19), a nursing student who was being treated after being hacked on her head and neck by a man, passed away at Rajagiri Hospital in Aluva.

Basil (21), a native of Iringol, entered the house and hacked Alka on September 5. Alka's grandfather Ousep and grandmother Chinnamma were also hacked when they tried to stop the assailant. Basil, who escaped after the attack, was later found hanging in his home.

Alka's body will be brought home at 11 am today. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cathedral, Kurupampadi at 4 pm. Her father Binu is an auto driver. Mother: Manju. Sister: Alna.

Accused Basil, a student at a private institution in Palarivattam, and Alka, a nursing student in Kolanchery, studied together at Kurupampadi MGM Higher Secondary School from Class VI to Plus Two. Their recent estrangement is believed to be the reason behind the attack. Alka was called out from the house and attacked in the sitting room.
