Only radar cameras were installed on roads, says Opposition leader in affidavit

kk

KOCHI: Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan and Ramesh Chennithala filed an affidavit in the High Court stating that the government installed normal radar cameras and not AI cameras for traffic monitoring. This affidavit was filed in connection with a petition filed alleging irregularities in the installation of AI cameras.

'The government is trying to deceive the people and the court by saying that AI cameras were installed across the state. Although the price of the camera installed by the government was Rs 3.76 lakhs, the price later came down. Now the price is Rs 98,000. This makes it obvious that the cameras installed by the state have outdated technology. The maximum price of the high-quality camera mentioned by the government is Rs 5 lakh. At this rate, Rs 36.3 crore will have to be spent for 726 cameras. Another Rs 50 crore will have to be spent on software, maintenance, etc. However, the government is spending 236 crore rupees on this project,' the affidavit read.
