THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: For the first time in its history, Kochi Metro has achieved operating profit in the fiscal year 2022-23.
The operating profit for the year 2022-23 is Rs 5.35 crore. Kochi Metro achieved this feat with a 145% increase in revenue compared to last year. Minister P. Rajeev said that it is a proud achievement that we have been able to make a profit within a short period of time. The Minister congratulated all the employees of KMRL for this achievement.
By introducing various schemes for students and regular commuters, installing self-ticketing machines and ensuring better service to the passengers, it was possible to bring more passengers to the metro. It is expected that there will be a significant improvement in revenue when the Tripunithura station becomes operational in the month of December-January and the second phase of the Kochi Metro becomes operational. This will help make Kochi Metro the best metro system in the country. The construction work of the metro to the Kakanad section has also started after the government got the revised administrative permission worth Rs.1957 crore for the second phase.
