India beats Australia by five wickets in first ODI match

MOHALI: A century stand between openers Shubman Gill-Ruturaj Gaikwad, a half-century by Suryakumar Yadav, and Mohammed Shami's five-wicket haul gave India a five-wicket win over Australia in the first ODI at Mohali on Friday.

India takes a 1-0 lead with this win in the three-match series.

Earlier, Mohammed Shami’s five-wicket haul helped India to restrict Australia to 276 in the opening game of the three-match ODI series against Australia.

For Australia, David Warner was the only batter to score a fifty while Josh Inglis played a second-best knock of 45.

Chasing 277, Indian openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill got India off to an incredible start. After this, India lost 3 wickets in quick succession and was reduced to 185/4. At the crease, KL Rahul was joined by Suryakumar Yadav and took India over 250 mark.India lost Suryakumar Yadav when the score was 265 and from there on KL Rahul took the team over the line.
