NEW DELHI: When BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri was hurling abuses at BSP MP Danish Ali, former minister Harsh Vardhan was seen sitting beside Bidhuri smiling. It never took late for the video to go viral and Vardhan was under attack for his smiling which was interpreted by many as a tacit endorsement of Bidhuri’s slurs.

With the issue spiraling out of control, Former minister Harsh Vardhan came on Twitter to clear his side of the story.

Harsh Vardhan said that he was present in the Lok Sabha when the incident took place but could not hear the MP's speech 'clearly'. Harsh Vardhan added that he felt sad and insulted that people with other political goals dragged his name into this issue.

“Born and brought up in Phatak Teliyan in Chandini Chowk's Gully, I spent my childhood playing with Muslim friends and can confidently say that those from the Muslim community were like brothers. I was overjoyed to have won as a Member of Parliament from the prestigious constituency of Chandni Chowk and this was only because of the support of all sections.“

On Friday, the Indian parliament encountered terrible scenes after a BJP MP abused the Muslim identity of BSP MP Danish Ali, kicking a political row.
