Government employee arrested for selling confidential files to buy liquor in Kanpur

KANPUR: A government employee was arrested for selling confidential files while secretly attempting to purchase liquor. The incident took place at Vikas Bhavan in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The files were reportedly sold by an individual working in the cleaning department. This was not his first offense, as he had previously sold files.

According to authorities, he provided documents related to social welfare, old age pension and garden construction to a scrap dealer. Some of these documents were recovered during investigations. The employee has been dismissed from service and further punishment will be determined once the investigation is completed.

The incident came to light when a senior official caught him in the act of taking files from the office. Vigilance was heightened after it became apparent that important documents and applications were missing from the office. During this time, the employee was apprehended with a bag containing stolen files. He admitted to stealing these documents to obtain money for purchasing alcohol. Some files were recovered during the search of scrap shops in his vicinity, but several crucial files are still missing.

Following the incident, authorities have requested an explanation from the office's head. Senior officials have labelled this incident as a case of gross negligence.
